New Mural Going Up In Brookland

A new mural has been started on the side of Brookland Cafe/Inn on 12 St. NE.  The mural will definitely add some character and color to the developing street scape. Many residents are excited to see this mural go up and add to the distinctive aesthetic that Brookland already has.  However, some locals are not too thrilled with the way mural is turning out and question how well it represents the community.

What do you think of the 12th St. Mural?

This building had just been painted, a nice neutral color, that was starting to make 12th look much better! This just looks like a step backwards in trying to improve Brookland. Graffiti and murals (even if it is well done!) are found in run-down neighborhoods.

Umm, Brookland is run-down.

Let's try to keep it above the waist everyone, and try to act like adults.

Dude, who are "some locals" and why are they questioning? Details, please, or lose the weasel words.

Rachel, "Some locals" refers simply to people in the neighborhood. If you are trying to imply something else, we don't follow. People in Brookland, regardless of race or creed, are looking at the mural in different lights. I think the current divide on the poll sums it up pretty well. Some people like it, some don't. Some people people want a mural while others don't. I don't follow the "weasel words" comment, and think this Blog fairly reports issues taking place in the neighborhood free of personal opinion.

Totten dude, no race or creed statement meant.

But by saying "some people don't like the mural" without explaining WHO these people are or what their problem with the mural is, you're being not only completely unhelpful (it does me no good to know that some of my neighbors dislike something) but actively harmful. Why let somebody go on the record to take anonymous digs at what appears to be a perfectly fine neighborhood improvement project? Tell me who has a problem, how many of them there are, and what the problem is, and we can move forward, you know? Otherwise you're just, as they say, startin' shit.

I'll add that your blog usually *does* report fairly and accurately, as I've learned as a relatively new reader. Which is why I'm so surprised at this post.
