Breakfast with a side of Politics...

The Totten Life has been invited to attend Ward 5 Council Member Harry Thomas' blogger breakfast tomorrow morning at the Cap City Diner.  A few other Ward 5 bloggers will be attending as well, as Harry shares his vision and plan on how to make the city better.  Any questions issues you would like raised regarding Ward 5, here is your chance to try and get them answered.  We will do our best to get answers for all legitimate questions answered as well as sharing Mr. Thomas' vision for creating a better DC!

I'd love to know how he plans to improve maintenance and patrolling of the Rock Creek Church Park between Fort Totten Drive and the Metro. The US Park Service operates the park, which means we need good coordination between USPS and MPD, something he could really help with.

I agree with Corey, something needs to be done with the paths through the park to the metro. Currently they are dirt paths, with plenty of trash on the sides. I know that the US Park Service wants to "restore" the park to its former glory, but lights and a real path need to be added there for security, at least one of them.

Also, what are their plans with all the new development coming to the area, the CCDC starting up and more. There will be a huge increase of human traffic in this area, and it would be nice to hear how the plan on phasing into a completely different style of living.

Well, according to NPS (they attended the meeting about the improvement plan - http://www.tooledesign.com/forttotten/public.html) they are not going to put in a path - they are not interested in increasing the foot traffic and disturbing more park land. Their plan is to make it into a wetland of some sort (you can actually see the mounds along Gallatin St that are supposed to hold back water... but it would be great to know if they have changed their mind and actually want to improve safety.
Also, if/when the Carfitz and Fort Totten Station developments are supposed to break ground would be great to know...
And other improvements - bike paths, etc...
